Like all storage media, Solid State Drives (SSDs) need to be fully and securely erased at key points in their life cycle. Unlike traditional hard disk drives (HDDs), whose data can be securely deleted by overwriting all sectors multiple times, securely erasing data on SSDs is more complicated. This paper will outline the differences in data management of traditional HDDs and SSDs and how these differences affect secure data deletion. Secure deletion of data on SSDs will be discussed.
