Presentation Recording Rig Setup I was wanting to record the presentations I give, and get decent quality on
both the live part, and the slides/computer screen portion. I was recording with
my Aiptek HD cameras, but the file sizes get huge and the screen captures were
subpar. I saw the way Skydog and crew did things at Outerz0ne, and came up with
this for my purposes: Skydog's rig is bout the same, but had two camera instead of just one and he
uses a standalone DVD recorder instead of the laptop I'm using. I capture with
Virtualdub and use the Microsoft Mpeg4 v3 codec. XVID was too slow for on the fly
capture (dropped frames), HuffYUV makes the files too large (about 250MB per
Min). Guess what I really need is a bigger hard drive so I can use HuffYUV, then
use a lossy codec like XVID later. Below are two videos that explain my setup further. Video taken with my Aiptek HD GVS: Captured with the rig:
Hopefully I'll get to test the rig out soon.
