Monitoring your home LAN with Python - Zach Tackett SecureWV/Hack3rcon 2018 (Hacking Illustrated Series InfoSec Tutorial Videos)

Monitoring your home LAN with Python
Zach Tackett
SecureWV/Hack3rcon 2018

I recently built a Python script that would routinely scan my home network, and would notify me whenever an unknown host had connected to my network. Basically, I had noticed some odd usage on my network and wanted to be able to identify when someone was logged into it without me knowing. The app is very simple, but quite useful, especially when set within a cron job.

I'm currently the Assistant Webmaster for Ohio University's Libraries. I like to dabble in security and concentrated on InfoSec while I was still in college. Most of my jobs outside of college have been in the realm of Web Development, and I worked shortly as a Database Specialist at Marshall University. I have an addiction to automate things so that's sort of what I was doing in writing this program.
