Join me for a critique of the LucasFilm epic, from the perspective of a security audit. Let’s review the security procedures and practices of the Galactic Empire, and see what they did well, but more importantly, learn from the mistakes they made. Prepare for a discussion on security policies and procedures, applied during the events that lead to the catastrophic business impact the Galactic Empire suffered as the result of data loss. This data was then turned against the Empire, with an advanced persistent threat that targeted, and eventually destroyed critical infrastructure. Then let us re-examine the situation with a proper security policy in place to understand how even the most basic policy approach, could have saved the Empires business, employee lives, and ultimately billions of dollars. Bio: Kellman Meghu is Head of Security Engineering (Canada and Central US) for Check Point Software Technologies Inc., the worldwide leader in securing the Internet. His background
includes almost 20 years of experience deploying application protection and network-based
security. Since 1996 Mr. Meghu has been involved with consultation on various network
security strategies to protect ISP’s in Southern Ontario as well as security audits and security
infrastructure deployments for various Commercial and Governmental entities across Canada
and the Central United States. Other past responsibilities have included day-to-day operational work in complex security networks, policy planning, management and documentation. Prior to joining Check Point, Mr. Meghu has held various network, VoIP and security engineering roles with European telecommunications giant Alcatel, a leading global information technology services company, Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and as a private consultant.Kellman has delivered security talks in private corporate focused events, at school internet safety classes for training students and teachers, as well as public events this past year including SecureWorld Seattle, The Check Point Experience, Bsides St. Johns, Bsides San Francisco, Bsides Iowa, Bsides Detroit, Secure360, Trilateral Conference, and Sector lunch keynote for 2012. Kellman has contributed to live TV interviews in the Toronto area with CP24, CityNews, and CHCH TV, as well as radio station interviews and news articles across Canada.
